Exhibition Couleur et sentiment
Davide Benati - Carlos Cruz-Diez - Dominique Rembauville
Carlos Torres - Anne-Sophie Viallon
April 13 - May 13 2018
Colors breathe us states of mind, feelings, they are carriers of sense and symbolism. The exhibition " color and feeling " raises the question of the perception of the color and of the felt we can have looking at works, through five international artists. Davide Benati (Italy), Carlos Cruz-Diez (Venezuela), Dominique Rembauville (France), Carlos Torres (Mexico), and Anne-Sophie Viallon (France), are artists that a collector has pleasure to follow faithfully. Each, although having very different universes, with its own vision on the world, brings us poetry, strength, emotion.
The pleasure of knowing them is coupled with that of to welcome them at my home for this first exhibition in Nice. It is a story of friendship. By presenting this new selection of works in an intimate and warm context, I try to recreate a link between the artistic creation and the domestic space, to favor the time of gathering and of discovery. Such a particular collection in an inhabited inside, we penetrate into a personal universe which creates a conversation between paintings, sculptures, drawings, with furniture and objects of the everyday life: a unique experience to discover and acquire works.

Davide Benati brings to the foreground visual suggestions recurring as centers of life and oversight: leaves and flowers; lotier, wisteria, ginkgo biloba … In these forms, clearly evoked or hardly suggested, there are fractures and transitions: a certain image stops in the space, and our look follows the frail breath of an edge, which marks on the paper its ultimate existence. A color ignites, turns, darkens or eases, being completely engaged in us or running out in the final palpitation of the one who feels his strengths missing him, before making a commitment in a journey in an unknown earth.

Carlos Cruz-Diez is one of the great figures of kinetic-optic art, the artistic movement that claims "the awareness of the instability of the reality". His researches make him one of the thinkers of the color of the XXth century. He leans on the chromatic phenomenon conceived as an autonomous reality which evolves in the space and the time, without neither assistant of shape nor medium, in present continuous. In his entire works the color changes in a continuous way according to several factors as the surrounding light, the distance or the angle of vision of the spectator.

Dominique Rembauville develops a pictorial story where the subject, the material bring in in opposition with the transparency of the glass or Plexiglas and the often monochrome uniqueness of the color. Writing, photo, painting, poster, metal, so assembled participate in the same adventure, concentration of tracks and feelings of the being. These mediums are for her of the moving tracks of the human being in the city. By mixing the disciplines and the textures, she expresses her vision of time and space.

Carlos Torres offers to the color breaks of shade and space, to give his full vibratory measure. The breaks push aside the unity of the image, which interrupt and invite to recompose. They require that the one who looks abandons his position of passive pondering, loses sight of the image, to revisit the surrounding and intimate world. Sometimes a grey fills the space of the picture and invites us to read the chance of tear, which overlaps as a summary of light. The grey takes then the spatial meaning of an avenue towards the color.

Anne-Sophie Viallon tries to underline the symbolism of the links between the human beings. The soft form of the fine lines, the clear and evanescent colors on worn fabrics and white papers juxtapose to a dully-violent bottom, grave and interrogator, to produce a soft ambiguity and a contradiction opened on a multitude of "possible". The body movement of the sewing and the embroidery brings a hardly hidden fragility. She produces tracks of temporal distortion, those of the time of piercing and drilling the paper or the fabric ... By these violent body movements, the paper or the fabric resists, the time lengthens, a space opens, a work builds up itself.
